Remembering John Somerville

After leaving Malvern, John did his National Service before going to St. David’s College, Lampeter for three years to study Theology. In 1963 he was appointed as assistant Curate in the parish of Rhosllanerchrugog, Wrexham. He was ordained Priest, by David Lord Bishop of St. Asaph Cathedral in September 1964. Three years later he momved to the parish of Llangystennin before becoming Vicar of the parish of Gorsedd, where he spent 32 years. He was a priest for over 50 years.

John devoted his life to his faith, his wife Eirlys, his community and local hospice. He regularly fundraised for his church and charities – in particular Childline – and he was chaplain of North Wales District British Legion.

He died on 15th February 2023, aged 84.
