4.44-48
James won The Ledbury Run twice (1947 and 1948) and broke the mile record for the school in 1948 in a time of 4 minutes 40.3 seconds, which he held for some time.
He was a commercial helicopter pilot involved in oil exploration around Doha and the Gulf in the late fifties. He carried out crop spraying in England and India in the early sixties and then continued flying onto North Sea platforms until the 1970s.
James built up a large commercial poultry farming operation that operated parallel with helicopter duties.
His father, uncles, cousin and a son, Michael (4.71-76) all attended the College.
James passed away peacefully on 26th January 2025, aged 95 years.
