Harriet Matthews

Harriet Matthews is a shining example of passion turned profession. A Malvernian through and through, Harriet has carved out an impressive career in golf, not only as a professional golfer but also as Head Golf Coach at Malvern College. Her dedication to the sport was recently recognised on a global scale by The Professional Golfers’ Association (PGA) when she was named one of 25 Golf Coaches to represent them at The Open later this year.

Harriet’s journey into golf began at the age of 12 when her grandfather gifted her golf lessons – an introduction that would shape her future. After Malvern, she studied Sports Performance and Excellence at Hartpury College, where she was awarded ‘Academic Student of the Year’, before pursuing Applied Golf Management Studies at the University of Birmingham, a world-leading taught degree, taught in collaboration with the PGA and solidifying her place in the professional golf industry.

Harriet is committed to growing the sport within Malvern College and is particularly passionate about inspiring more pupils to take up golf. She currently coaches over 50 pupils, guiding them from their first swing to national-level competitions.

Beyond golf, Harriet’s sporting talents extend far and wide. In her younger years, she played county hockey, swam at nations, played club and school level tennis along with being an accomplished sailor. Her love for the water remains strong, and when she isn’t coaching on the course, she can often be found sailing in St Mawes, Cornwall, where she races traditional sailing boats or working as a skipper on the rescue boats. She is also a qualified lifeguard, and swim teacher, showcasing her commitment to sport and mentoring across multiple disciplines.

Harriet is an active member of the Old Malvernian Golfing Society and has played a key role in supporting the College beyond the golf course. She has been a Resident House Tutor in No.4 and is currently undertaking a two-year ‘Advanced Boarding Practice in Pastoral Care and Boarding Management’ course with the Boarding School Association, furthering her dedication to pupil wellbeing.

Harriet’s unwavering enthusiasm for sport, education, and mentoring makes her a true Malvernian role model, inspiring pupils to pursue their passions with confidence and determination.
