OMGS Northern Meeting at Formby Golf Club

OMGS Northern Meeting at Formby Golf Club

The OMGS Northern Meeting enjoyed a fantastic turnout on Sunday 6 September, with a full complement of 36 golfers taking to the magnificent Formby Golf Club for a day of competitive golf, camaraderie and excellent conditions.

The event was expertly organised by Charles Hayward (5.78), who did a superb job of bringing together a full field and ensuring a highly successful day for all involved.

Morrell Challenge Bowl

The main competition for the Morrell Challenge Bowl, played as a Stableford Handicap competition, produced some very impressive scoring.

The winner was Richard Duerr (1.85), who recorded an outstanding 41 points to take the trophy.

Richard is pictured receiving the Morrell Challenge Bowl from OMGS Captain Jerry Hughes (6.73) and event organiser Charles Hayward (5.78).

The runner-up was Matt Gray (1.91), who finished on 37 points. Matt edged out fellow 37-point scorer Ben Hood (1.91) on countback, with the final six holes deciding the result.

Congratulations to Richard, Matt and Ben on some excellent scoring.

Lister Greenwood Trophy

The Lister Greenwood Trophy, contested as a Scratch Medal competition, was won by Giles Winthrop (5.15) with an impressive level-par 72.

Giles took the trophy after a fine round, with Chris Crisp (7.17) finishing runner-up on 75 and Alex Taylor (5.15) taking third place with a score of 76.

A great Northern Meeting

With a full field, excellent golfing conditions and some strong performances across both competitions, the Northern Meeting was a great success.

Our thanks go to Charles Hayward for his excellent organisation and to everyone who took part in making it such an enjoyable occasion.

Congratulations to all the winners and prize winners, and we look forward to seeing everyone again at a future OMGS meeting.
