We are delighted to welcome Professor Sir Chris Whitty (3, 1979–84) back to Malvern College for what promises to be a fascinating and thought-provoking evening.
Sir Chris will begin his visit with a workshop for pupils interested in medical studies, before delivering a lecture to our Business, Politics and Economics pupils on The Role of the State in Preventing Disease.
The lecture will explore the important and often contested question of how far governments should go in preventing disease and improving public health. Sir Chris will consider where the responsibilities of the State should end, and where those of individuals and the medical profession begin.
Sir Chris has kindly agreed to open the lecture to SGS members and local OMs, providing a unique opportunity to hear from one of the UK’s leading figures in medicine and public health.

About Professor Sir Chris Whitty
An epidemiologist and specialist in infectious and tropical diseases, Professor Sir Chris Whitty is one of the UK’s leading figures in medicine and public health. He is Chief Medical Officer for England and Chief Medical Adviser to the UK Government, as well as a Fellow of the Royal Society and the Academy of Medical Sciences.
