The Old Malvernians came agonisingly close to lifting the Beechbrook Capital Cricketer Cup 2026, in what proved to be a truly unforgettable final against the Old Cliftonians at the beautiful Arundel Castle Cricket Ground on Sunday 9 August.
After an excellent run through the competition, with victories over Rugby, Harrow, Bradfield and Wellington, the OMs arrived at Arundel hoping to secure the club’s 18th Cricketer Cup Final victory.
Reflecting the history of the Cricketer Cup, and the long list of talented players who blazed the trail for our 2026 team, two Old Malvernians, Peter Clare-Hunt (2, 66-70) and David Price (7, 69-73), were inducted into the 1908s Cricketer Cup Hall of Fame.
Back on the pitch, and with a glorious, hot and sunny day, Josh Haynes lost the toss and Clifton elected to bat. With the wicket looking good for batting but potentially offering some assistance to the spinners later in the day, the general feeling was that a score of around 280–300 would be competitive.
