Our pupils and staff really stepped up to the task of participating in our Wheelie Green Challenge as part of this week’s Green Giving Day. 12 Kilocalorie bikes (1 per House and 1 for staff) were situated in the Main Reception where cyclists took it in turns to pedal as many Kcals as they could on the bikes, the idea being to generate enough energy to keep the lights on in the Main Building. A really impressive 59,779 Kcals were generated in the 8 hours of the challenge, which equates to keeping the lights on for 3 hour and 40 minutes.
A massive well done to everyone who took part; we are delighted to announce that the winning Houses are No.9 (6,136 Kcal) and No.3 (5,640) who will be awarded the new Green Challenge Cup. Congratulations to the staff team too who generated an impressive 6000 Kcal on the day.
In total 233 pupils and staff took part, with many more spectators cheering them on, offering water and fanning fellow pupils to keep them cool. Teamwork at its finest – well done everyone!
The Challenge’s success resulted in an additional £5,000 of funding being unlocked for our Green Giving Day fundraising total – amazing work.
