Old Malvernian Philipp Studt (5/8.96-00) is embarking on an extraordinary challenge as he takes on the legendary Cape Wrath Ultra this May, one of the UK’s most demanding multi-stage ultra-marathons.
Spanning eight days and covering an astonishing 400km (250 miles), the race takes runners through the rugged and remote Scottish Highlands, from Fort William to the northernmost point of mainland Britain at Cape Wrath. Participants face steep mountain climbs, river crossings, and harsh coastal terrain, running up to 45 miles a day while carrying their own kit. With unpredictable weather and gruelling conditions, it is as much a test of mental endurance as it is of physical stamina—historically, only 50-60% of entrants complete the course, with some years seeing finish rates as low as 25%.
Philipp is undertaking this epic challenge in support of Shooting Star Children’s Hospices. The charity provides essential care for babies, children, and young people with life-limiting conditions, as well as vital support for their families across Surrey and London. Whether a child’s life is measured in days, weeks, months, or years, Shooting Star ensures that every moment is as meaningful and comfortable as possible.
From Sunday, 18th May, supporters can track Philipp’s progress live via the GPS tracking page on the race website. Messages of encouragement from Old Malvernians are also greatly appreciated.
Every contribution, no matter the amount, makes a tangible difference in the lives of the children and families supported by Shooting Star.
