OM’s watch brand wins prestigious international design award

Old Malvernian Seán Brickell (4.83-85) has received international recognition for excellence in design. His watch brand, Edward Christopher, has won a GOOD DESIGN Award for its debut timepiece, the ‘Manta’- a 40mm guilloché sports and dive watch designed for everyday wear.

Selected from over 4,500 global submissions, Edward Christopher was one of only two watch brands to receive this prestigious accolade, which celebrates the very best in consumer product design worldwide.

Speaking of the design award, Seán said: “We wanted to design a luxury dive watch range that had both a strong colour narrative and a mesmerising dial. Because we didn’t want to create a watch that’s just beautiful to look at. We also wanted to create a watch that would also be absorbingly interesting every day you wear and look at it, that plays and flirts with the varying lighting conditions wearers find themselves in. And we also wanted to design bold colours to suit people’s varying clothing and moods. We called it the Manta because the Manta Ray has a beguiling distinctive beauty and is different to most other creatures in the sea… and that, like our watch, stands out from the crowd!”

Congratulations Seán, we cannot wait to see what is ahead for Edward Christopher.
