OMs gather for annual OM Club Dinner at Malvern College

On Saturday, 22nd March, Old Malvernians returned to Malvern College for the annual OM Club Dinner, a highlight of the alumni calendar and the finale of this year’s Commemoration celebrations.

The OM Club Dinner unites members of the 11 alumni sports clubs and societies, alongside distinguished guests and the wider Malvernian community. This year, we were privileged to welcome Sam Glover (5.90-92) as our guest speaker. Last year, Sam achieved the extraordinary feat of rowing solo across the Atlantic Ocean, securing the title of fastest solo competitor in The World’s Toughest Row with an incredible race time of just 42 days, 3 hours, and 15 minutes. His captivating account of this journey – one of resilience, endurance, and sheer determination – left the audience in awe.

A poignant moment of the evening was the tribute to Paul Godsland (Staff 1982 – 2024), who sadly passed away in October 2024. Paul’s unwavering dedication to alumni sports was cherished by many, and it was a fitting honour for his son, Alec (5.06-11), to speak on behalf of the family, reflecting on his father’s remarkable legacy.

Keith Metcalfe, Headmaster of Malvern College, delivered the Loyal Toast, and the evening was expertly hosted by our fantastic Master of Ceremonies, Mark Hardinges (1.91-96).

Our thanks go to the OM Cricket Club Patrons for sponsoring the cheese and port, and to Tim Straker (3.68-72), Chair of the Malvernian Society, for the champagne.

The evening was filled with camaraderie, laughter, and cherished reunions, making it a truly memorable occasion for all who attended. Thank you to everyone who joined us and contributed to its success. We look forward to seeing you at next year’s event!
