Congratulations to the OM Ladies’ Hockey Team who gave an outstanding performance to finish second in the Dean Close Alumni Sixes Hockey Tournament on Sunday 24th March.
The girls were back at Dean Close School in Cheltenham to defend their title, having won the competition for the last two years. Independent school alumni teams from all over the country took part to compete for the Carnill Cup, named in honour of Denys Carnill a long-time member of staff at Dean Close who played hockey at three Olympics 1952, 1956 and 1960.
This year the team comprised of: (from left to right) Holly Makin (8.08-13), Chloe Underwood (4. 12-17), Poppy Underwood (6.15-20), Becky Connell (4. 08-13), Sarah Wiseman, Heather Harris (8.17-22), Amellie Clare (3. 21-23).
The tournament is a busy one, with six players on the pitch at one time, and each match lasting for 15 minutes each way. In the group stages Malvern won two games, lost one (to Dean Close who they then went onto play in the finals) and drew one. Malvern fought hard in the final but Dean Close were the better side on the day, winning the final match 3-0.
A fantastic performance from our girls – well done!
