The OMGS was founded in July 1922 and played its first match against the Old Carthusians later the same year. One of the founders of the OMGS, Susie Mellin, was also instrumental in the founding of the Halford Hewitt the following year.

In 2019 the OMGS won the Bernard Darwin Senior Trophy and the Halford Hewitt.

Apart from annual fixtures against alumni teams from Repton, Shrewsbury, Marlborough, Rugby, Winchester, Uppingham, Sherborne, Haileybury, Cranleigh and, of course, Malvern, the OMs compete in a wide range of competitions, with some 30 regular events each year: the Arnell Bowl pits OMs against Old Reptonians throughout the summer culminating in semi-finals and finals in October. Woking GC hosts the Alba Trophy, a 36-hole invitation scratch foursomes competition for some 30 teams from Surrey and other long-standing golfing societies; and the Bernard Darwin Senior Trophy and the Bernard Darwin Trophy in June and July. Little Aston GC hosts the Public Schools' Midlands Meeting in June, the Maltonbury Cup (a triangular tournament with Repton and Shrewsbury) in August and the President's Tankard in October. The Putting Competition is hosted by the Royal Wimbledon GC. The Grafton Morrish culminates in finals at Hunstanton & Brancaster GC. There is the Spring Meeting at St George's Hill GC, the Summer Meeting at Blackwell GC, the Autumn Meeting at Royal Cinque Ports GC and the Northern Meeting in September at Formby GC.

The OMGS competed in the Grafton Morrish Competition over the first weekend of the month (30 Sep - 3 Oct). The team, captained by Will Beeson, consisted of three pairs: Adrian Coleman & Henry Aldridge; Will Beeson & Ian Timberlake; Chris Crisp & Giles Winthrop. After four days of competitive golf the three Malvern pairs were unbeaten in all 15 matches as they marched towards the final on Sunday afternoon (including beating Sherborne, who only weeks earlier, had knocked us out in the Halford Hewitt by the narrowest of margins).

In the final against Millfield it came down to two 10ft putts at the last hole in the final pair (the first two matches being halved). We narrowly missed the downhill 10ft putt and then Millfield holed from the same distance across the slope, a putt rarely holed at Hunstanton. So, after 17 unbeaten matches (in itself a remarkable achievement), it came down to the 18th match on the 18th hole and just one putt was the difference and our sincere congratulations to Millfield the victors. The team had an amazing supporter in Chris Boyd who was with the team the whole time, in some awful weather at times, with a seemingly constant supply of bananas. We also had many well-wishers from other schools; we are a popular school at the Hewitt and Grafton because we have always played in the right spirit

The annual dinner will be held at the RAF Club, Piccadilly on 28 January 2022. For further details, please contact Simon Hooper.
