On a sun-drenched afternoon on The Senior (23rd June), the OMCC Gryphons faced off against a spirited Exeter University side in a match that delivered both drama and delight.
Losing the toss, the Gryphons were asked to bat first. Steady starts from Mwai Kibaki (2.20-22) and Ollie Tulloch (7.17-22) laid a solid foundation, allowing for Myles Holland (SH. 17-22) and Sam Clements (SH. 20-25) to both pass fifty. A composed middle-order performance saw the Gryphons declare on 254 after just 26 overs of a possible 30.
After a long lunch, some were questioning the decision to declare, reckoning we might have let them back into the game. The Ducks responded scoring runs in accordance with the required rate, but consistent wickets helped the Gryphons stay well within the game. With the Ducks requiring 30 off 2 overs, up steps Ollie Tulloch with two crucial wickets, and a series of “hit me” deliveries, seeing the Ducks requiring 10 off the last with 1 wicket remaining.
A crucial run out saw the Gryphons secure another well earned victory, keeping the Gryphons’ unbeaten run intact and adds another memorable chapter to their summer campaign.
