Chris Birks OM

A visit to honour his legacy

We are indebted to Chris Birks (No.4 1950-55) who left a generous legacy gift of £300,000 to the Malvernian Society.

We were delighted to hear from Chris's great friend, Chris Bramley, of the fond regard in which Chris had held the College, and we were also pleased that the conversation brought us back in touch with another OM: Nick Pritchard-Gordon (No.4 1980-85) who is Chris Birks’ godson.

Mr and Mrs Bramley were kind enough to present the legacy cheque in person, so it was a great pleasure to organise a visit to the College for both them and Nick, on what turned out to be a stunning, sunny, September day.  The College was looking its beginning-of-term best, and Nick, who had not been back since his schooldays, was able to catch up with the latest developments here. Lunch provided an opportunity for the Headmaster, the Bursar, and both the Chairman and the Secretary of the Malvernian Society to acknowledge this very generous legacy, and to thank Mr Bramley for all his work on our behalf as Chris Birks’ executor.

Chris's generous legacy gift will be allocated predominantly to the College’s main fundraising project, the redevelopment of our Edwardian Rogers Theatre.  We hope Chris would be pleased that his gift will endure in this way for the lasting benefit of our pupils.

If you are planning on leaving a legacy to Malvern College or the Malvernian Society, or if you would like more information about legacy giving in general, please do be in touch.
