Fly Fishing afternoon is a reel success

Members of the OM Fly Fishing Club came together with pupils to enjoy a memorable afternoon of fly fishing at Kingfisher Lake near Bromyard, on Saturday 10th May.

Conditions looked promising, with plenty of surface activity on the water and Old Malvernians Tony Butler (5.66–71), Chris Price (7.73–78) and Robert Leachman (7.66-71) on hand to assist, helping pupils get to grips with casting after a brief session on the grass. Thanks to Adam Wharton, Malvern College’s Chaplain, the group now has access to rods and reels, and he was soon helping to choose the ideal fly for the day’s conditions.

Despite gusty winds and the challenges of learning a new skill, the pupils embraced the experience enthusiastically. The afternoon concluded with delicious picnic boxes, provided by the Malvernian Society, making a relaxed and sociable end to the outing.

It was encouraging to see strong pupil engagement, even with some absent due to weekend commitments such as cricket, tennis, and clay shooting.

Thank you to Adam Wharton who continues to champion fly fishing across the College and introducing pupils to the joys of the sport.
