Charlotte Hurst takes on the world’s toughest mountain race

This week, we are cheering on Old Malvernian Charlotte Hurst (4.97-99) as she embarks on one of the most formidable endurance challenges in the world — the Dragon’s Back Race in Wales.

Dubbed “the world’s toughest mountain race”, the Dragon’s Back is a six-day ultra-marathon covering a staggering 380km with nearly 17,000m of ascent. The route begins at the iconic Conwy Castle in North Wales and winds its way through rugged mountain terrain to finish at Cardiff Castle in the south.

Charlotte, who is racing as number 128, is no stranger to pushing her limits. As a type 1 diabetic she’s taking on this epic adventure not only for personal challenge but also to raise funds for Breakthrough T1D, a charity dedicated to supporting those affected by type 1 diabetes.

Despite facing a recent injury scare, Charlotte remains determined and optimistic. “I feel like my body is holding together by a thread,” she shared, “but I’m hoping I can get deep enough into the race before it becomes an issue. I’ll give it everything I have — have no doubt about it.”

You can follow Charlotte’s progress live via the Dragon’s Back Race tracking site, and read more about her journey on her blog: Charlie’s Challenges.

If you’d like to support Charlotte’s fundraising efforts, donations can be made via her JustGiving page.

We wish Charlotte the very best of luck and strength for the days ahead — the entire Malvernian community is behind her!
