A World-First Challenge Across the Indian Ocean

For Lara Vafiadis (8.03-06), adventure is more than a passion – it’s a personal challenge. In 2022, she achieved the extraordinary by rowing solo across the Atlantic Ocean. Now, she’s setting her sights on an even greater feat.

In June 2026, Lara and her team ‘Brain Waves’ – a mixed crew of four with ocean rowing running through their salty veins – will attempt a world-first: an unsupported, continent-to-continent crossing of the Indian Ocean by a mixed crew.

This is no ordinary voyage. It’s a 5,500-mile, 100-day journey from Australia to Kenya, powered only by determination, teamwork, and sheer grit.

But this challenge isn’t just about making history. It’s about making a difference.

The team aims to raise £500,000 for two life-changing charities:

Along the way, they’ll also conduct vital research on plastic pollution and explore the effects of exercise on mental health.

The team is seeking partners who want to be part of something extraordinary. Sponsoring Brain Waves will offer unprecedented brand exposure, with Lara’s last expedition reaching 27 million people through major media outlets.
