On 19th May, Charlotte Hurst (4.97-99) will be stood at the start line of a 400km ultra-running adventure from Fort William to Cape Wrath in Scotland to raise vital funds for JDRF, the world’s leading charitable funder of type 1 diabetes research.

Charlotte, who has type 1 diabetes herself, successfully completed the Marathon des Sables last year which saw her complete the gruelling 250km race through the Sahara Desert in a remarkable time of 47:02:06.

This year’s Cape Wrath Ultra, spans eight days, and is a self-navigating 400km race across the stunning, but barren and remote Scottish Highlands, based on the famous Cape Wrath Trail. It crosses rugged landscapes and genuine wilderness – hikers usually take at least 20 days to complete the trail. Charlotte will have just eight days!

Through Charlotte’s fundraising challenges, she hopes to raise awareness of type 1 diabetes, aiming to prove it doesn’t need to stop someone with this chronic condition from achieving anything.
